Sometimes it is worth waiting a little while to see if vtiger have any 
thoughts. In the past, some features and code from the cloud version 
have been back-ported to the open source version.

In vtiger cloud, line items are being tracked (See screenshot) so 
perhaps some the imput about how they have implemented it would be 
helpful before we "re-invent the wheel"... @Prasad?
