Typically in RelatedLists it is because they don't need to see the 
column with the UI10 entity name when looking at the list in that 
Entity, e.g.

When looking at a related list of Contacts when in an Organisation, you 
*don't* need to see the Organisation name in the list.

When looking at a related list of Contacts in different module it would 
be right to see the Organisation name.

But we get asked to modify these columns for all sorts of reasons; 
depending on the module you are looking at the related list from the 
customer often wants to see different information.

It's the same with the Popups. When you want to create a relation often 
you need certain fields visible to help you search - admittedly this is 
less of a problem in 6.1 as the search picklist offers all fields - not 
just the visible ones.
