[Vtigercrm-developers] enrich person records using import

Dear all,

one of our customers would like to define new custom fields for persons and
use the import to fill these fields with existing data. As I understand it,
this should be possible by merging the records during the import.

However, we have a problem with matching the imported records with the
existing records. By default, first and last name are used to match person
records (right?). But as you can imagine, first and last name are usually
not good identifiers because you can have several persons with the same
name. Ideally, we would instead use the unique contact number to match the
records instead. This way I can export the existing person records with the
contact number, the customer can enrich the new fields externally, and I
import back the new file.

How can this be done in vtiger 5.4? Any help is much appreciated.
