[Vtigercrm-developers] Event Handler or Custom Workflow function?

Anyone have any guidelines/observations about when it's better to write 
an Event Handler or a Custom Workflow function?

I want to populate a few fields in a module record when it's created 
and/or saved again. These fields will be read-only and populated with 
values from related modules' data.

I can do it either way. Just wondering if one is better or more 
suitable. I can't really see much difference myself.
