Richie,
In my view it is a must for vTiger 5 to support PostgreSQL. This is a sensitive topic here, so I'll try to be objective and not start a flame war:
1.
MySQL is not opensource, it requires $ and a license to use it commercially --which as someone pointed out earlier, is the main driver for using vTiger in the first place, to make money.
2.
MySQL does not own the INNODB transactional table type, Oracle does
3.
Oracle, the other database supported (?) is not open source
4.
Compliance with PostgreSQL suggests that the codebase is much more tightly aligned with the ANSI SQL2000 standard --which easily leads to support for other Adodb databases
5.
PostgresSQL has a strong following on this list and there are many individuals who are ready and willing to contribute. I would highlight bushwack and jeffk who have performed significant amounts of work in bringing PostgreSQL support to 4.2.4
If we're agressively pursuing opensource components for vTiger, I think we need to ensure that consumers aren't forced into a non-opensource license just to run the application. If someone wants to run this on a Windows Server XXXX with an Oracle db, I wish them luck. At the same time, we want folks with Fedora core X, to be able to legitimately run vTiger without shelling out $.
All of this said, I see two main drivers to get PostgreSQL support in vTiger 5 before release.
1. Added portability and stability by supporting an ANSI SQL 2000-compliant db.
2. Removed dependence on non-opensource software.
This is my view.

Hello!
The code base is slowly being stabilized and I would expect it to be upto the mark
by around May 7th or so.
I would like to know your views on supporting Postgres in vtiger CRM 5 GA please.
Thanks,
Richie
