#7743: Document PHP version requirements more thoroughly
-------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
 Reporter: naumann | Owner: developer
     Type: defect | Status: new
 Priority: unassigned | Milestone: Unassigned
Component: vtigercrm | Version: 5.4.0
Severity: Critical | Keywords: php version requirements

-------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, I spent some hours trying to get vtiger to install on 5.4.0 to
install on the current stable version of Debian GNU/Linux (version 7.0).
As you know, just like Redhat, this operating system is usually well
behind the latest application version so you do not usually run into the
issue where the LAMP stack it provides is too new for a web application to
 work in this environment.

Sadly, this seems to be the case for vtiger 5.4.0, which, according to a
users' post on the forums (which I was only able to read today since the
forums are now available), is incompatible with PHP 5.4.x (and higher?),
which would explain the white pages without error messages I got to see.

Unfortunately there is no note on this requirement in the installation
 instructions at
 https://wiki.vtiger.com/index.php/Installation_with_LAMP#Installation_steps_for_Source

  - they only state a minimum version of PHP 5.2.

As a result I went though one of the worst installation experiences so
 far. :-/

Please document both minimum and maximum PHP version on the documentation.

 Apparently that's PHP >= 5.2.0 and PHP <= 5.4.0, so PHP 5.2.* and 5.3.*
are really the only ones which work without code modifications.
