In older vtiger systems if you set the generatedtype (in vtiger_field) <br>
of a date field to "2" it would always open empty in new records. I've <br>
not tried it in v7 but it worked in v5 & v6.<br>

BUT - the Calendar module is a bit weird and proprietary compared to <br>
other modules so you might run into other issues such as the Javascript <br>
routines which expect there to be a date value so when you change one <br>
the other changes... You'll need to test thoroughly.<br>
