@Federico
I read both your posts again and I don't know if there's something I didn't understand. From what you said I understood that you're no longer planning to commit fixes and patches, and this means that the community is smaller and shrinking. Of course, my misunderstanding of the context might result from the fact that I don't read/write well in English. I don't know why you're talking to me about some custom modules, it wasn't me who reported problems with them.

Prasad writes about some layout v7 to be released in 8-12 months, you write about some strange fallback system and some cooperation on it, but the truth is that the current problems result from the fact that:

1. The current mechanism is not finished.

2. The current mechanism is not compatible with MVC.

3. Vtiger should upgrade BS2 to BS3 / 4.

4. Creating such a mechanism should be consulted with the community.

5. In order for the template mechanism to work properly, you must rebuild many internal mechanisms, for example. vtiger_links, loader and so on.

Whatever you say about the fallback system, we created layout support and rebuilt the engine to it, so there's nothing to theorize about, just check how it works in our system and then do the same thing or better.

I'm not going to discuss which template is more responsive, I'm not going to waste my time for that, and it won't bring anything substantial to the discussion. I just want to point out that if you make a new template based on BS3 outside the engine [the engine decides what and when is to be loaded], then it's wrong in many ways [no matter what effect you achieve].

However, the template problem is a marginal issue, the standard Vtiger template is not bad, it's better than many commercial systems. Vtiger's problem is the calendar, lack of integration with caldav/carddav, data import/export problems, no pdf editor integrated with the engine, no decent email client, no searching by related modules, lack of search engine management. A lot of vtiger's code is outdated and needs refactoring and new business approach.

The open-source version is no longer being developed, it will be good if vtiger adds multi layout support under your pressure, but on the priority list it is of low importance for the community and for the real needs of customers. Compared to other projects Vtiger slowed down and many other systems accelerated, at this rate taking a step forward with the template, you are three steps behind the competition, and that's short-term thinking.

Hi Błażej,

Honestly I think you made a bit of confusion, I'm Federico and I'm the main
developer of the MYC team and speak for all the team in this forum, we
offered our collaboration to contribute to the development of the new v7
layout and the fallback structure with the condition that they have to share
the new layout "v7" (I simplified the fallback procedure description in my
previous post because I would just "inspire" Prasad to find the solution!),
we have yet implemented the fallback structure to develop our themes, many
customers use it everyday and no problems with custom modules were reported,
obviously it will surely need a revision but for us and our customers it is
working properly.

Maybe you didn't read with care all the posts in this thread, we hadn't
released any free theme for vtiger, you could look at our demo to see our
themes ( http://demo.makeyourcloud.com/vtiger6.3 ) , you will see how we
developed two really responsive layouts with our custom fallback method and
implemented a sort of custom layout change (making our layout as skins, it
was a trick to enable the user to quickly change it) when this feature was
not present yet.

We are working to a new module that will replace the layout switcher (this
time according to the layout structure, so no fake skin changes but a custom
module to do it and skins will have their original function) with many
advantages like the fallback solution, an user-based layout selection, a
fully responsive layout ( no layout switch required, the layout will adapt
itself to each screen resolution, and you should understand how much work
this need due to the hard tabled structure of many vlayout views) and it
will be fully compatible with the vtiger role/permission system, we
scheduled this release (updating our two themes) by the end of this month.

P.S.: I looked at your bs3 theme and it seems to be really far from the
concept of "responsive", obviously I know how many hard work you needed to
adapt all the js to work with the new structure, we have a similar project
in progress but with the goal to make a really fully responsive bs3 layout
and it is the main reason why we need the standardization of bs3 css
framework for vtiger and relative extensions.

Kind Regards,
Federico Bempensato,
MakeYourCloud (MYC) Development Team - http://www.makeyourcloud.com

--
View this message in context: http://vtiger-crm.2324883.n4.nabble.com/Vtigercrm-developers-about-new-template-manager-Vtiger-6-4-tp17848p17882.html
Sent from the vtigercrm-developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

_______________________________________________
http://www.vtiger.com/
