[Vtigercrm-developers] assigned to field read only in profile?

I think that both of you are right.

Any record should have one "Assign to" field set

On the other hand, users with low profile should not re-assign records, this
is should be done by their manager. What's about to allow the Administrator
to set a default value to "Assign to" fields for any profile for which we
want that user won't have the permission? In this case the record will keep
the content for the "Assign to" field and users with low profile cannot
change it.
