[Vtigercrm-developers] uploading documents via web service but missing parentid

I just successfully uploaded a document via the web service, but it
ignored my parentid settings.  Lo and behold, it looks like parentid
is handled manually [1] [2].  I suspect things will start to work as
expected if I chop out the manual bits and add the relevant field.
Can anyone think of a reason I shouldn't do this?  Or why things work
the way they currently do?
