Comment:

 setting $disable_stats_tracking doesn't work in 6.* it appears in the
 config.inc.php but nowhere else in the code.
 layouts/vlayout/modules/Users/Login.tpl line 145-146 is the stats image,
 but there is no {if}{/if} statement around it for conditional display.
