 Hi Joe,

 Thanks for your effort in analyzing the issue deeper. Looks like the
 changes have been missed for the fresh setup. This issue will be addressed
 with 5.4.0 release.

 Most of the issues with Date time fields (in search and custom filters),
 have been addressed and the changes have been pushed to 5.4.0 branch. The
 release will be available sooner. Above mentioned issue is also fixed with
 5.4.0 svn source.
