 Which is this theme that you are trying to use? Is it custom theme created
 by yourself? In that case, you could be missing some important file.
 Please check and let us know.

 Though you directly changed the theme value in database, it may not
 reflect immediately as the information is stored in the user_privileges
 file as well.
