 If a user doesn't have permission for email id field of contact, he will
 not be able to modify the details for already created portal contact.

 I have a contact who has portal access and also have a user who doesn't
 have access to email id field of contacts. When he(CRM user) logs into the
 vtigerCRM system, he could not change any details of the contact as
 because not having permission for email id field, the script alert will
 come and say that "'''portal user should have email id for portal
 login'''" . Isn't wrong?

 Suggestion : we can fix this problem in a following way instead validating
 over script. Better remove the portal block(in edit/detail view etc,.) if
 a logged in user doesn't have permission for email id field.
